The Avenfield Reference case refers to the purchase of four flats in Avenfield House, Park Lane, London.

The Sharifs had been unable to explain where they had got the income to buy the apartments and were convicted for having money over and above their known sources of income.

The case had taken nine months to conclude.

Nawaz was handed a £8 million fine, and Maryam a £2 million fine.

Captain Safdar's one-year jail term had been handed down to him for not cooperating with the National Accountability Bureau which had filed charges against the Sharifs.

The ownership of the London flats surfaced with the Panama Papers in April 2016 which led to the Supreme Court turfing Sharif out of office.

The court also ordered the filing of corruption charges against Sharif.

The National Accountability Bureau filed three cases against Sharif, one of which was the Avenfield case.

Sharif's daughter Maryam, his son-in-law Captain Safdar, and his two sons Hassan and Hussain were co-accused in all three corruption cases.

The courts have already declared Sharif's two sons as absconders due to their failure to appear before them.

They have also been blacklisted by the authorities, and barred them from travelling on their Pakistani passports.
