Now, China backs Trump's decision to stop war games on Korean Peninsula

Trump-Kim summit

Story highlights

President Trump had announced South Korea and the United States wouldn't be conducting any more war games

China said today it supported Trump's freeze on stopping war games along the Korean Peninsula.

President Trump had announced South Korea and the United States wouldn't be conducting any more war games calling it "inappropriate" in the present climate after successfully concluding his summit with North Korea's Kim Jong-un in Singapore on Tuesday.

China backed President Trump's decision saying that its proposal of "dual suspension" proposal was a practical solution. According to the dual suspension proposed by China, South Korea and the US were to halt war games on the Korean Peninsula and in exchange North Korea would suspend its nuclear missile programme.

However, after Tuesday's summit between Trump and Kim, the situation on the ground has changed rapidly with the North Korean leader signing an agreement with the US to take steps towards "denuclearisation" of the Korean Peninsula.
