PM Modi addressed the Uganda Parliament in Kampala today on the second leg of his 3-nation tour.

Addressing the Parliamentarians, the Indian prime minister said he was enchanted by the "pearl of Africa", adding that rivers of the country had nurtured civilisations.

Modi is the first Indian prime minister to address the Ugandan Parliament.

"Uganda has overcome many challenges," the PM said during his address, adding that young members are good for democracy.

India is proud to be Uganda's partner, the PM said emphasising on "deep ties" between the two countries. "We fought colonialism together," he told the MPs, asserting that Africa will be the government's top priority.

India's freedom struggle is closely linked to Africa, he said. India will work with Africa, for Africa, the Indian prime minister said.

"There are 6,000 Indians in African peacekeeping operations," he informed the Parliamentarians. India is the backbone of African digitalisation, he said.

Earlier, the prime minister had said that India will gift a cancer therapy machine to Uganda as a "token of love".

On Monday, PM Modi met the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni as the two leaders discussed trade, investment and tourism.
