Over 14 people were killed on Saturday in the northern city of Juarez, which is known for its drug gang-related violence, in three separate incidents.

An attack happened in the southern part of the city, where eight men who were gathered watching the World Cup football match between Mexico and South Korea, were shot at by armed gunmen who killed six and injured two, according to security officials.

At the same time, five other men gathered at a salon in a downtown neighbourhood, were killed by a group of people who arrived at the scene om a blue van.

Hours earlier, during the early hours of the morning, three other people were taken from a party in a neighbourhood on the outskirts of the city and executed by gunmen.

Mexico City had largely been spared the grisly drug cartel violence affecting other parts of Mexico. The number of deaths has increased to a great extent with 128 in Juarez alone this month.

On Wednesday, four people were killed and 25 were arrested after a series of shootings took place related to drug dealing.

Police responding to reports of drug deals found two people dead on the city’s south side. Police chased the suspects and came under fire from gunmen on motorcycles. They reported killing kill two of the assailants and wounding another.

Five guns, one car and 16 motorcycles were seized at the scene.
