The country's LGBTQ community, and others, broke out in rapturous joy after the historic Supreme Court verdict decriminalising homosexuality on Thursday.
"Criminalising gay sex is irrational and indefensible," Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra had said while delivering the order.
He added that the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer (LGBTQ) community has the same rights as any other citizen.
The celebrations broke out minutes later.
"We have finally got justice. We are finally azaad in azaad Hind," said the LGBT rights activist Ashok Row Kavi.

The Delhi High court had struck down Section 377 in 2009, but the ruling was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2013.
The Supreme Court had at the time said it was the government's job to make, and strike down laws, not the courts'.
On Thursday, it changed its mind emphatically. The order decriminalising homosexuality Thursday was passed unanimously by a five-judge bench.
