RSS to invite Rahul Gandhi to Delhi event next month: Reports

The RSS is planning on inviting Congress President Rahul Gandhi to an event next month in Delhi, news reports said Monday.

The reports said the event will look at "The India of the Future", and will be held between September 17 and 19. The reports added that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat will address the meet.

Gandhi has in recent times compared the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to the Muslim Brotherhood, a Sunni Islamist organisation founded in Egypt.

Gandhi said both organisations were founded in the 1920's. And that both organisations saw the electoral process as a means of capturing institutions, Gandhi said in London last week.

The reports added that apart from Gandhi, several other opposition leaders would also be invited to the event next month.

In June, former president Pranab Mukherjee had attended an RSS event in Nagpur. The reaction to that had been mixed.

Most commentators said Mukherjee had pulled his punches when he talked about the RSS role in India's history. The Congress on the other hand took the line that he had been able to hold up a mirror to the RSS.
