Two more suspects have been arrested by the Special Investigation Team from Hubbali, in north Karnataka, on Monday in the Gauri Lankesh murder case and will be in probe for 15 days, reports said.

The polices narrowed down to the two men after a series of questions to one of the arrested men in the case. The men have been identified as Ganesh Miskin and Amit Baddi.

Both men, who are in their late-20s, have been accused of murder, abetment, conspiracy and under various sections of the Arms Act. The police are yet to spell out their role in the case but it is suspected that they were involved in the destruction of evidence.

SIT sources indicated the possibility of Miskin’s involvement in the murder of Kannada scholar Prof M M Kalburgi at his residence in Dharwad, near Hubbali, on August 30, 2015 by unidentified men.

The same gun was used to kill journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh and rationalist M M Kalburgi in Karnataka, the state forensic science laboratory has confirmed in a report, sources in the SIT said. The forensic report was submitted to the Special Investigation Team probing the killing of Lankesh is part of the first charge sheet filed recently by the SIT naming KT Naveen Kumar as an accused.

With the latest arrest, the total number of people nabbed has increased to 9. All nine arrested, including the alleged shooter, Parashuram Waghmare, 26, from Vijayapura district of Karnataka, are claimed to have been part of the core group of Hindutva group who executed the murder, reports say.

Meanwhile, the gang involved in the murder of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh has a wide network spread across at least five states and comprised at least 60 people, a senior police official had said.

Lankesh was shot dead right in front of her Rajarajeshwari Nagar residence in Bengaluru. She was a Left-leaning journalist-activist was said to have raised the hackles of the Hindu right with her strong views against hardline Hindutva.
