
The Movie Artists' Association (MAA) lifted a ban that it had imposed on Telugu actress Sri Reddy on Thursday after NHRC sent notices to the Telangana government and the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry over Reddy's allegations.
Reddy had stripped in front of Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce office on Saturday alleging that some of the prominent producers of the Telugu film industry had sexually exploited her in lieu of film roles. A day later, the association had imposed a ban on the actress and forbidden its 900 odd members from working with her ever.
On Thursday, National Human Rights Commission took suo moto cognizance of media reports about the allegations raised by Ms Reddy and a lack of grievance redressal mechanism for women in the film industry.
Following the Commission`s observation, MAA President said they had no grudge against Reddy but since her allegations hurt the artistes, it was decided to impose the ban.
He said all 900 members of MAA were free to work with Reddy.
