'Sanju' controversy: Abu Salem sends legal notice to Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra

Convicted gangster Abu Salem has sent a legal notice to the makers of 'Sanju' accusing Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra of defamation. Salem has alleged that the film depicted and stated erroneous information on him.

A scene in the film shows Salem and two other gangsters coming to Sanjay Dutt's house to keep arms- which eventually led to Dutt's jail term has been refuted by the gangster. "The scene where Ranbir Kapoor (pictured as Sanjay Dutt) gives confessional statement about the possession of arms and ammunition during the communal tensions around our country in the year 1993 is defaming my client as my client never supplied the arms and ammunition as alleged to Mr Sanjay Dutt as pictured in the said film," the notice stated.

The notice claims that Salem never met Dutt or supplied arms and ammunition to him.

The notice further stated that the scene should be eliminated within 15 days of receipt of the legal notice, failing which appropriate legal action would be taken. Salem's lawyer also sought a publication of apology for the same.
The gangster is serving a jail sentence after being convicted for being involved in the 1993 Bombay blast case.
