Oscar-winning film The Boy and the Heron to release on this OTT platform

For those who have missed out on watching The Boy and the Heron, there is good news. The Academy award-winning film is soon going to be available on Netflix.Created by the iconic Hayao Miyazaki, the film earned the Best Animated Feature award at the Oscar Awards 2024.
The film was earlier on the streaming platform Max. The growing popularity of the film has now reportedly prompted makers to expand its availability.
Also known as Kimitachi wa Dou Ikiru Ka, the animated movie will now stream beyond the US and Japan where it had its initial release.
Earlier, Netflix had announced the global expansion of its exclusive deal with Studio Ghibli. The OTT platform has added 22 new films to its global library, all of which will be available on the streaming platform across countries, except the US and Japan.
In the United States, Max recently acquired the streaming rights for the half-a-biographical fantasy film by Hayao Miyazaki thereby becoming the exclusive streaming home for Studio Ghibli films.
The actual release date ofThe Boy and the Heron on Netflix has not been announced yet.

About The Boy and the Heron
The critically acclaimed film first had its release in 2023 in Japan. The story follows Mahito Maki, a young boy, during the time of the Pacific War. Mahito's mother passes away, and he moves to the countryside. There, he comes across a deserted tower.
The film is reportedly one of the most expensive animated productions to date in Japan.
This was Miyazaki's first film in a decade and one that brought him back to direction after a long hiatus. He has both directed and written the film. In Japan alone, the film grossed over $85 million while in North America the film raked in an impressive $12.8 million in its opening weekend.
